Petition Signature Collector

Another possible part-time job is as a petition signature collector. These are the folks that stand outside of grocery stores and other venues and solicit signatures on behalf of a cause. Not only can the hiring process be quicker and money not too difficult, it may present opportunities to network and find other job leads!

In order to be qualified in the State of California, you must be a US citizen, a California resident, at least 18 years of age and not currently on parole. Probation is okay. For qualifications in other states, check with you secretary of state’s office.

To find a job as a petition signature collector, check Craigslist and search on Google, petitioners (insert city of interest) paid. You may need to experiment with search combinations for best results. A variety of jobs should appear. Some with hourly pay, plus, incentive pay for each signature. Part-time and full-time opportunities usually exist that claim one can earn $10–$40 per hour.

Finding part-time work

You may want to look at part-time work, because part-time jobs are usually not as competitive as full-time positions. In the beginning, you may have to piece together two or three part-time jobs to make enough money to survive. Hopefully one of the companies you are doing part-time work for will like you enough that when a full-time position opens up, they will give it to you.

It’s a good idea to take an easier-to-get job (stepping stone or launch-pad job) even if you believe that you are overqualified for the position. An object in motion tends to stay in motion. There are many success stories out there of people taking a couple of stepping-stone jobs and then going on to find excellent full-time work.

Some part-time jobs even come with benefits. Safeway, Peet’s Coffee & Tea and Starbucks offer benefits to part-time workers. Get creative—want to stay out of prison or jail? Get a job! You will sentence yourself to a life of poverty unless you find a job.

You can check the Gigs section of Craigslist to find short-term jobs like yard work, labor, gardening, catering and serving, plumbing, handyman. These short-term jobs, however, can occasionally lead to more work.
